This is the most upscale property in Santa Catalina. Rooms are like villas, large and comortable. Pool is beautiful with lots of greenery. Food in the restaurant is really good...but not incredible. Air conditioning works well, but power often goes out.

What an amazing place! Can’t say enough good things about the property. The owner was very accommodating, the property was beautiful and clean and we could lay in our bed and see the ocean waves crashing down during this super moon high tide! Surfers were out there in large numbers having a blast. We had a long drive on the day we arrived and our host made us the best frozen margaritas that we have ever had! The town is small and friendly which was perfect. This property has an awesome pool that we had to ourselves every evening. If your looking for a clean, comfortable, romantic getaway… this place is it! Best place we went to in Panama!

This small hotel is located in Santa Catalina and features air-conditioned rooms, free breakfast and an outdoor swimming pools with sea views. Hotel Sol y Mar also has free Wi-Fi in public areas.
Santa Catalina is an interesting place. If I were younger and a surfer, it might be awesome. At this stage it feels like it is still the frontier, the “wild west” of Panama. It is obviously super popular with the crunchy backpacker and surfer crowd, and judging by the development taking place (golf course down the road), it will soon be popular with the expats and gringos as well.

Good place to have a day trip to Coiba, we did an excellent snorkelling tour with Watching Dolphins.
Playa Estero is very pleasant for a lazy afternoon ( but better with a car!).
Some pleasant restaurants in the village : We liked lodge bar and restaurant, very good and friendly.
Very disappointed by Los Penguinos, beautiful view and nice for a drink, but very very very long service.
There is an ATM near the Pharmacia and supermarket.

I’ve been to Santa Catalina about 9x in the last 15 yrs.
I’ve been to Santa Catalina about 9x in the last 15 yrs. It’s clearly a place I enjoy. I’m there for the diving. If you go there to dive you should visit Isla Coiba … it’s world class. Of course you also have surfing, kayaking, fishing, walking on the beach or just relaxing at your hotel pool. Highly recommend getting out and enjoying one of the many restaurants. I also really like the people, who I find friendly and hard working. Hangout by the beach at sunset and you’ll find locals & tourist playing volleyball or just sitting over a cold beer enjoying the view.

Santa Catalina is quiet surf town.
Santa Catalina is quiet surf town. During the day, most of the restaurants were closed. There are two beaches, the nicer one is Estero beach, which is good place to surf, even for the beginners. You can do snorkling trips, diving, surf or kayaking to the Santa Catalina island, where the beach was great and water clear.

Santa Catalina is an extremely nice surfer town!
Santa Catalina is an extremely nice surfer town! It is definitely one of my favourite spots in Panama in general! It is more remote so if you are a solo traveler I would suggest staying in a social hostel.
The people are friendly and it is a really nice town as a beginning surfer or advanced.
And you should do the coiba tour!!! It is so beautifull, i have no regrets paying a little more for a tour like this.

One of the top places I've been to for scuba diving, I've been there a few times and I've seen whale sharks, bull sharks, white tip sharks, giant oceanic rays, cownose rays, eels, sea turtles, sea horses, frogfish, etc.
Loved eating in Hotel Iguanito, Ai Mamita (in Villa Coco Hotel), and for breakfast: Café Panachocolat and Sugar Mamas.
Not super easy to get around, you basically need a shuttle or car to go through the bumpy road. Once there, it's a bit hilly for the average walker/bike rider. If you stay in the intersection where all the dive centers are located, and you're there to scuba dive, then you're walking distance from everything you need.
Villa vento is a great hostel. Not only great people working there, also a big kitchen, a pool and a lot of community places to hang out. If you are looking for a hostel vibe you will definitely find it in villa vento. It’s in the center of Santa Catalina near a supermarket and a fruteria and 15 min walk to Playa Estero and around 4 min to the main beach. I extended my stay there and wish I could have stayed even longer. I will definitely come back, thanks to all the great people which made this place a home for almost 3 weeks.
Juan and Chris put passion and care into every detail at this hotel. The rooms are comfortable and clean and they personally prepare delicious food and drinks at their restaurant - so much so that it’s often packed with local expats. They know the area very well, offering plenty of advice about excursions and even arranging a snorkeling trip to Coiba for us. It’s at a perfect price point for couples or older travelers in particular. Take advantage of this opportunity, as there aren’t many places left like this!
The property is small but meticulously clean, and had a lot of amenities unusual for the area it's in. (Full kitchen, AC, bathroom with hot water). It is in Santa Catalina, so expect things like power to come and go and be prepared. But Paola (the host) was amazing - she goes above and beyond to make sure guests are comfortable and safe. We really loved the place and will stay here again next time.
Incredible location, we loved sitting in the hammocks and watching the sunset. No better view in Santa Catalina. Great aircon in the rooms and very clean with towels provided. Great access to town and the beach. Kitchen was basic but functional and worked well. The host was so helpful and friendly, we loved meeting the pets and we used the laundry service which was speedy.
Breakfast was excellent and the evening meal in the restaurant was good, possibly the best food in town for the money. The room was nice but looked out over the parking area, not a garden view. There is a pizza place and coffee/ice-cream place very nearby. People running the hotel were very helpful. The pool was clean and there were shaded areas and loungers in the garden.
We stayed in Santa Catalina for about 2 weeks and this was by far our favorite place to stay!! The Rolo family treated us like their own and we will definitely be back. The kitchen has everything you need, bathrooms are very clean and they provide surf/kayak/SUP rentals right there. They set us up with everything we needed. Everything was incredible! Highly recommend!
Great location and facilities! It's close to the shops and restaurants. The staff are nice and they are willing to help with anything! The room and the pool area are amazing and the cafe in front, Sugar Mama, has really good breakfast. Since we like Santa Catalina and the hotel, we extended our stay. It great for solo travelers, couples and families with kids.
Very nice little bungalow with private bathroom. For us it was perfect, had the privacy we wanted when in our bungalow and could enjoy the clean common spaces with the rest of the guests. Staff was great in helping us discovering Santa Catalina and answering all our questions and needs. Overall great experience, we would be happy to go back.
The rooms are very clean and neatly decorated. Clean and spacious communal kitchen as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great, some cute cafés and restaurants nearby, plus Santa Catalina beach where coiba expeditions start. Estero beach is a 20 minute walking distance
- Lorna is probably the nicest host you will find in Panama!
- the view, combined with the location - it‘s not in the center of Santa Catalina, but you can reach everything by a short walk along the main streets or the beach (just head left when leaving the property)
very nicely located hotel, one of its kind in an area of small hostels. excellent service from the staff and quick to solve any minor inconveniences. food was DELICIOUS, highly recommend the seafood. overall very nice place with good amenities and comfort.
Gino made my stay perfect. He organized a snorkeling trip to Coiba and a horseback riding trip on such short notice for me and I loved both trips. I can also really recommend the food in the hotel restaurant. It was authentic and very delicious.
Beautiful hotel area with an infinity pool and a lot of places to relax and enjoy the view. The location next to the beach is awesome. Hotel staff was really friendly and could help us with excursions, etc. You can rent surf boards right here.
- beautiful room with kingsize bed, outdoor shower and patio
- nice pool are with canopy beds
- beautifully decorated restaurant area
- delicious fresh food at dinner and great atmosphere
- hotel organizes tours to Isla Coiba in advance
Great experience. This is the best hotel in Santa Catalina Veraguas. It has a very good balance between confort and ecological ambience. The team make you feel at home.
Food was nice and was very clean. Its in the middle of the town, close to all scuba diving centers and other nice restaurants for the type of town Santa Catalina is.
