Love this coastal town. Dawn Lee McKenna has made it famous with "The Forgotten Coast" series of books. They should name a street or avenue after her. Excellent food, fun and friendly people. Be sure to go to the Apalachicola Chocolate shop and visit Richard Bickel for fabulous photography. Love Lynn's Oysters but if she's not open the Blue Parrot Ocean Front Cafe on St George Island has wonderful oysters too!!!

I loved that this little town was a hardworking Seafood town with boats, and fresh catch available at its local restaurants. It was casual in nature, and had some lovely boutiques, antiques, coffee houses, etc around the town. I LOVED that this was NOT a "tourist trap" but more of an experience. St George Island State Park was nearby and was fun to wander about. We also took in a nearby Veteran's Museum out driving one day. We had one of the most relaxed trips visiting the "Forgotten Coast" and Apalachicola. Kayaks, good. Swimming-NO.

Delightful.
Delightful. Particularly enjoyed walking with a printed tour through the old cemetery across from the Inn.
The art and shops were unique.
The strolls around the core area were amazing. The pride in ownership of residential and commercial buildings was obvious and appreciated. The churches and armory and historical plaques throughout the area gave one a very good sense of what was. Great experience.

This is a quaint working town with charming stores amid the necessities. It is walkable all about to find what you're looking for or to just enjoy. Being outside is a must! Loved the waterfront restaurants and the little candy, bakery, specialty shops interspersed throughout. The oysters were phenomenal! Jumping point to St. George Island and their trails and beaches. Carillon offered a WWII museum that deserves more attention. This is not your lounge on the beach type areas, but you can find THAT both East and West of here. Great little working town. Happy community!

We loved the town!
We loved the town! It is very "old Florida" with streets safe for walking, biking or golf carts. It is close to the beach but you have to drive to St George Island or farther up the west coast. By the way, the beaches are beautiful and NOT crowded. There is really wonderful seafood everywhere, so enjoy!

Apalachicola is a great place to visit.
Apalachicola is a great place to visit. The shopping is great and they have many fun and delicious places to eat. There are several restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the river. We ate at Half Shell Dockside on a Friday night where we were able to sit outside, eat delicious seafood and enjoy live music. You can walk almost everywhere you want to go and our hotel (The Gibson Inn) offered golf cart rentals which made our shopping and dining experience even more fun! My husband is an artist and he set up one morning and painted outside under a palm tree. It is a great place to just get away relax, eat, shop and move at a slower pace.
The office staff are absolutely amazing! They are very welcoming! Rooms are nice and clean. Cleaning lady was fabulous and friendly! Nothing bad to say about this hotel except the person above us woke us up both mornings around 4 am. (May have been workers leaving for work lots staying here due to reconstruction after the hurricane) We would definitely stay here again!
The breakfast was very good and the breakfast attended was very helpful. We also had a dysfunctional A/C unit and without hesitation they helped us move to another room and gave us a little break on the bill. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay on Florida's forgotten coast.
The Gibson Inn is such a charming hotel, and I would highly recommend staying here! The decor is outstanding! Even if you don’t stay here, just stop in for a drink or meal. It’s well worth just walking in the hotel lobby to catch this unique gem in all its glory!
Value for money
Exceptionally clean
Yes it's a little older style but the cleanliness beats some very well known 5 star hotels
Beds are comfy and sheets are crisp and clean
Great location
And staff were very welcoming
Would definetly return
The home was beautiful and carefully maintained. Staff was very helpful and always pleasant. Even though the hotel was a converted house, there was no noise from other guests or rooms. Look forward to staying again on our next trip down!
Great place, very clean, exceptional service. Location of hotel is perfect. We had so much fun fishing in the area. Awesome community. Hotel owner is very helpful, always there to provide service. We are definitely coming back.
Perfect location, easy to walk to interesting shops and restaurants. Room was so clean that my wife didn't need to do her usual "hotel pre-clean." Staff was fantastic, although they seemed short-staffed in this dem-economy.
The hotel is absolutely stunning, the room
was beautiful, the staff were fantastic and the food in the restaurant/bar was amazing. We throughly enjoyed our stay and only wished we could have
stayed longer.
The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. The screened in balcony overlooking Scipio Creek gave great views of both sunrise and sunset over the Apalachicola River. Kitchen was a great bonus.
The hotel was very clean, the room was comfortable and well maintained. The beds were just the right firmness, and you could smell the cleaness upon entering.
